Our Team

President
Monique Belair

Monique Belair began her career in 1986 as a Crash Rescue/Structural Firefighter with the Canadian Armed Forces, one of only five women serving on military bases across Canada at the time. She advanced through every role in the fire service, including Communications, Prevention, Education, Investigations, and the Office of the Fire Marshal, gaining a broad understanding of fire service cultures from remote rural communities to large urban centers. As Deputy Fire Chief in Oakville, Monique prioritized fostering female talent in firefighting. In 2019, she founded Camp Molly, a program offering young women aged 15–18 hands-on experience in fire services. By 2024, Camp Molly expanded to Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan, also partnering with the National Indigenous Fire Safety Council. To meet growing interest, Monique established a Board of Directors to support future camps with sponsorships, consistent curriculum, PPE, and volunteers while preserving the camp’s vision: “Be Prepared to Be Challenged, Empowered, and See Yourself Differently.” Monique’s distinguished career includes serving as Deputy Fire Chief in St. Catharines and Oakville, and as Fire Chief in Belleville. Monique recently retired from Kingston Fire and Rescue as Fire Chief and she is now a Senior Advisor with Independent First Nations Alliance (IFNA) and continues to advocate for women in fire services and mentor youth in her community.
